Are you looking for a great band to check out on Friday night?
Women (Jagjaguwar) are from Calgary, AB and released their self-titled debut album late last year. They've been steadily getting serious attention with various critical sources. They played at Fader Magazine's party at SXSW and will be performing at the Pitchfork festival in July. It is very hard to describe their sound but what comes to mind is very early Velvet Undergound with a touch of Brian Wilson era Beach Boys (e.g. Pet Sounds and Smile). They have also been compared with Pitchfork darlings Times New Roman as well as Deerhunter. Check them out for FREE at the Union Terrace Friday night.
Women was recorded by Sub Pop artist Chad VanGaalen in his basement, at least partially on boom boxes. Below are links to two individual mp3s from their self titled lastest release.
